Newberry County Water & Sewer Authority was established as a Special Purpose District of the State of South Carolina in 1963. The Authority serves approximately 4,000 drinking water customers and 500 sewer customers. Sixteen full-time employees support the Authority's operations. The operation and maintenance of the water and sewer system are funded solely by the revenue generated by the system.
On a daily basis, Newberry County Water & Sewer Authority provides approximately 1.2 million gallons of high quality drinking water to its customers. The Authority's water sources include a combination of treated surface water from the Authority's Lake Murray Water Treatment Plant and water purchased from the City of Newberry. The water purchased from the City of Newberry is treated surface water from the City of Newberry's treatment plant located on the Saluda River.
Newberry County Water & Sewer Authority currently owns and operates:
- Lake Murray Water Treatment Plant
- 350 miles of water main
- Five water booster pump stations
- Six drinking water storage tanks
- Cannons Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant
- Force main and gravity sewer collection mains
- 40 duplex sewer pump stations.
